TORONTO (Aug 7, 2008) - Manulife Financial Corporation today reported quarterly shareholders’ net income of $1,008 million and fully diluted earnings per share of $0.66, compared to net income of $1,102 million and fully diluted earnings per share of $0.71 for the same period last year.  Return on common shareholders’ equity1  was 17.0 per cent in the second quarter of 2008, compared to 18.5 per cent in 2007.  The Company also announced an increase in the quarterly shareholders’ dividend from $0.24 per common share to $0.26 per common share.
