Canadian-based Manulife Financial has been conducting business in Hong Kong for more than one hundred years. Following is a brief chronology of the Company's history in Hong Kong.

2008 > In 2008, Manulife pioneered a series of innovative individual insurance, provident-fund and investment-fund products to meet customers’ different protection and investment needs: * PremierPlus Critical Illness Protector (and its economical version Critical Illness Living Benefit) is a Living, Recovery, Retirement Well-being and Death Benefit all-in-one product that covers 48 critical or gender-specific illnesses up to age 100, with Second Medical Opinion service, Cover-Me-Again and money-back options. * I'mWell is the first standalone medical-reimbursement insurance plan of its kind, with guarantees well into retirement, namely: (1) guaranteed coverage to age 100, (2) guaranteed option to step up hospitalisation coverage at retirement, and (3) guaranteed money-back option on surrender. It also provides senior major medical coverage at no additional charges. * Manulife MPF Healthcare Fund, under the Manulife Global Select (MPF) Scheme, was the first-ever MPF-sector fund in the market. It caters to a segment of MPF members that looks for more focused and targeted investment. Three new funds, namely the China Value fund, Aggressive Fund and Stable Fund, were also added to the ORSO ManuFlex (MIL) scheme. * With the introduction of the Global Contrarian Fund to the Manulife Global Fund (MGF) platform, Manulife brought a new contrarian-investment concept to retail customers. It also added the Manulife Inv Middle East and North Africa Equity Fund to the Manulife Investment Solutions platform. > As the exclusive Life Insurance Partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Manulife organised a series of activities in the year to promote the Olympic ideals and reinforce its "Bringing Dreams to Life" brand promise. These included: * Treating Manulife's privileged customers, staff and top financial advisors to a Beijing 2008 Olympics trip. The company also supported 10 local elite athletes under Manulife's Hong Kong Sports Scholarship Programme in their bid to represent Hong Kong at the Games. * Inviting members of the public to envision their own dreams and to submit them through its innovative "One Dream" online charity campaign. * Airing a new TV commercial that depicted stories of ordinary people from different walks of life living their dreams > Manulife continued to win accolades for its trusted brand name and commitment to excellent service and products. Among them: * For the second year running, Manulife was designated Hong Kong's "Best Company for Financial Planning Excellence" in the insurance sector of the "Hong Kong Financial Planner Awards" organised by the South China Morning Post and Institute of Financial Planners. Its Senior Investment Consultant Cathy Wong was named the overall individual winner for the insurance industry. * Next Magazine's "Top Service Award" for ninth time in a row. * "Yahoo! Emotive Brand" Award for fifth consecutive year. * Capital Weekly Service Award 2008. * Reader's Digest "Trusted Brands Survey 2008: Gold Award" for the fifth consecutive year. * East Week's "Hong Kong Service Award 2008" for the third consecutive year. * Sing Tao "Excellent Services Brand Award 2007" for the second year running. * Two Six Sigma awards in the Projects and Leaders categories. * "Web Care Gold Award" from the Internet Professional Association for fifth time. > Manulife was granted the "Caring Company" title by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service for the sixth year for its ongoing community commitment. > The company's strong volunteer spirit was seen in its record seventh winning of the Community Chest's "Challenge Cup - Overall Top Fund-raiser" and "Top Fund-raiser for Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk". > Manulife pledged to continue funding the Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University for another three years (2008-2010). The company also set up a Manulife Musical Movement and Play Therapy Room at the Heep Hong Society's Cheung Ching Early Education and Training Centre, and a Manulife Gym Room at the Hong Chi Association's Morninghope School. > In promoting a healthy, sustainable living and working environment, the company stepped up wastage reduction in the workplace, thus qualifying for the Wastewi$e Label — Level "Good".
