Robert A. Cook
Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager, Asia


Robert A. Cook is Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager, Asia and a member of Manulife Financial's Executive Committee. Mr. Cook is responsible for Manulife operations in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Prior to his current appointment in 2007, Mr. Cook served as Executive Vice President, U.S. Insurance Group. In this capacity he oversaw the John Hancock Life Insurance, Long-term Care, and Financial Network business units.

During more than 30 years at Manulife, Mr. Cook has held management positions in the company's U.S., Canadian, International and Corporate divisions. He has been located at various times in Toronto, Waterloo, Boston, England, and currently is based in Hong Kong. His experience spans a number of areas including: strategic planning, product management for insurance and annuities, sales, and marketing.

Mr. Cook is a General Committee Member of the Employer's Federation of Hong Kong as well as Chairman of its Insurance Group. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, and a member of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Beta Gamma Sigma chapter.

Mr. Cook is a graduate of the Universities of Toronto and Calgary and holds an MBA in Finance.

   
   

Craig Bromley
Executive Vice President and General Manager, Japan


Craig Bromley is Executive Vice President and General Manager of Manulife Japan, as well as its President and Chief Executive Officer. His aim is to establish a strong business base for long-term success in the second largest life insurance market in the world.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Bromley was Executive Vice President and Deputy President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Risk Officer of Manulife Japan. He has also served as Senior Vice President, Business Development and Investor Relations of Manulife Financial Corporation in Canada. In this role, Mr. Bromley was responsible for both Manulife's merger and acquisition activity and its Investor Relations function, and led Manulife's merger with John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. in April 2004. Mr. Bromley joined Manulife in March 2000.

Prior to joining Manulife, Mr. Bromley was Assistant Vice President, Business Development for Canada Trust, and worked in management consulting and with the Ontario Government.

Mr. Bromley holds a Masters of Business Administration through a joint program of York University and Laval University and a BA in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

   
   

Cliff Davis
Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Asia


Mr. Davis is responsible for developing and implementing human-resources policies, strategies, plans and programs to support the growth of Manulife's business throughout Asia. He is also a Board member of Manulife Life Insurance Company (Japan) and Manulife International Holdings Limited.

Mr. Davis has more than 30 years of senior leadership experience in business operation and human-resources management. A veteran in formulating global human-resources policies with over 20 years of experience focusing on Asia, he specializes in directing human-resources activities such as recruitment, development, assessment of talent, retention, compensation and salary planning, benefits, employee relations, executive coaching, merger and acquisition activities, brand development and communications.

He holds memberships in various external human-resources councils and chambers, including The Conference Board's China Human Resources Council, Asia Pacific Human Resources Council, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and the Employers' Federation of Hong Kong. Mr. Davis holds an MBA from Washington University, U.S.A.

   
   

Michael Dommermuth
President and Head of Asia, Manulife Asset Management


Michael Dommermuth is the Head of Asia for Manulife Asset Management. Based in Hong Kong, Michael oversees all investment activities across Asia and Japan. He is responsible for managing the Firm's rapidly growing assets within the region and ensuring the Firm's investments complement the regulatory landscape.

Prior to his current appointment, Michael headed Manulife's investment operations in Asia, ex-Hong Kong. From 2001 to 2004, he headed the company's institutional spread-based business product development efforts based in Boston. Before joining Manulife in 2001, Michael was head of various units within a global rating agency, including leveraged finance and asset-backed securities based in New York, London and Sydney.

He is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Management Science.

   
   

Philip Hampden-Smith
Executive Vice President and General Manager, South East Asia
Operations


Appointed Executive Vice President & General Manager in 2006, Philip Hampden-Smith heads Manulife's seven operations in the ASEAN area namely Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam and also has oversight for the development of the Indian and Korean markets. Additionally, Philip is also responsible for Alternative Distribution channels in Asia.

Philip is a member of Manulife Financial's Management Committee.

Philip became the President and Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Singapore from September 1, 2003 and since then has been responsible for leading the local merger between Manulife and John Hancock in Singapore. In 2005, Philip was appointed Senior Vice President, Regional Operations, heading up Manulife Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

Prior to this, Philip was President Director of Manulife Indonesia for three years. During his time in this position, Philip oversaw a four-fold increase in assets of Manulife Indonesia. Also while under Philip's direction, Manulife Indonesia was voted the "Best Insurance Company in Indonesia". In 2002 Manulife Indonesia was also recognised as the best insurance company in Asia in an independent survey with Philip as President Director.

Philip first joined Manulife Financial in Hong Kong in 1996 as President and CEO of Manulife's investment operations. While in Hong Kong during this period, Philip was an elected Executive Board member of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association and a member of the Hong Kong Securities Institute.

Born in Japan and educated in Asia and the United Kingdom, Philip has 27 years of experience in the financial services industry, working in the UK, Europe and Asia. Prior to this, Philip spent five years as a professional soldier in the British Army and is an Officer Graduate of The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. His interests include his children, property, and marathon running.

   
   

Michael Huddart
Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong


Michael Huddart has overall management responsibilities for Hong Kong, the flagship business operation of Manulife in Asia. Mr. Huddart has been responsible for Hong Kong operations and business development since 2004 including its individual insurance business, employee benefits and high-growth wealth management business. He is also the Chief Executive of Manulife Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited. Under Mr. Huddart's leadership, Manulife Hong Kong has seen significant growth in both the tied agency and independent distribution channels.

Mr. Huddart is very active in the Hong Kong insurance industry. He is a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee, chaired by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong SAR Government. He chairs the Insurance Claims Complaints Bureau, and was chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) in 2007 -2008, and the HKFI's Life Insurance Council in 2006-2007.

Mr. Huddart was formerly General Manager of Manulife Taiwan, Vice President for Business Development in Asia, Chief Actuary for Manulife in Indonesia, as well as the President Director of Manulife's former pension consulting business there. Mr. Huddart has more than 30 years of practical experience in the life insurance and pension consulting fields.

   
   

Craig A. Merdian
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Asia


Craig A. Merdian is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Asia.

Mr. Merdian is responsible for the Company's regional financial affairs including actuarial, controllership, taxation, treasury, risk management, investor relations, other financial operations as well as business development.

Before joining Manulife Financial, Mr. Merdian was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the international operation of a major insurance company for four years. Prior to this insurance company, Mr. Merdian held senior positions with a leading US insurance company for ten years. From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Merdian established a Singapore office for a leading actuarial consulting firm. He successfully built a life insurance consulting practice with responsibility for leading projects in Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.

Mr. Merdian is both a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Certified Public Accountant.

   
   

Guy Mills
Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Asia


Guy Mills is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Asia Division, and is responsible for working with business units across the region to enhance the Company's operational capabilities, develop strategies to allow the business to respond to change more quickly and to deploy resources across the region more effectively.

Mr. Mills will also be responsible for the brand development and communications functions in the region, and will be a member of the Asia Division Executive Committee. He will report to Robert A. Cook, SEVP and General Manager, Asia Division.

Most recently, Mr. Mills was Senior Vice President & General Manager of Global Resourcing, based in Manila, where he developed and executed the strategy for Manulife's captive and third-party facilities and built a world-class global resourcing practice.

Mr. Mills joined Manulife in 1995 in the Canadian Distribution Systems team and has held progressive positions within Canadian, Japan and Corporate divisions with oversights of application development teams, the enterprise application architecture function and the management of key John Hancock integration projects.

Ellen Mok
Senior Vice President, Information Technology, Asia


Ellen Mok is Senior Vice President, Information Systems, Asia, for Manulife Financial and has been with the Company in Hong Kong for more than 20 years.

She joined Manulife from Hang Seng Bank, where she began her career in banking before moving into data processing, an area where she obtained considerable professional qualifications during her service with Manulife. Ms. Mok joined Manulife as a Senior Systems Analyst, and was promoted to a number of increasingly senior positions, including Director of Data Processing, Assistant Vice President and Vice President of Information Technology, prior to being appointed to her present position in 2004.

   
   

Marc Sterling
Executive Vice President, Asia Regional Operations, Manulife Financial and Chairman, Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Co., Ltd.


Marc Sterling is Executive Vice President, Asia Regional Operations, responsible for Manulife Financial's businesses in China and Taiwan. Mr. Sterling has more than 21 years of experience in the financial services industry in Asia, 17 of which have been with Manulife and four-and-half as an attorney in a private practice specializing in financial services law. He was responsible for Manulife's life insurance market entries into China, Vietnam and Macau and AMCO market entries into China and Taiwan.

Mr. Sterling has been managing Manulife's businesses in China since 1993 and its businesses in Taiwan since 2000. In addition he was responsible for the successful start-up and operation of Manulife's business in Vietnam, from 1999 to 2005 and has led the following Asia-wide corporate functions - General Counsel, Business Development and Regional Distribution.

Mr. Sterling has been a member of the Manulife's Senior Management Committee since 2001. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Manulife (International) Limited, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Co. Ltd., Vice-Chairman of Manulife TEDA Fund Management Company Ltd., and Chairman of the Board of Manulife Asset Management Company Ltd, in Taiwan. Mr. Sterling is a past Chairman of the Taiwan Insurance Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Sterling holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, a Juris Doctoral degree in Law, and a Master of Law's degree in Banking Law.

   
   

Chris Bendl
Senior Vice President, Head of Regional Wealth Management, Asia


Chris Bendl joined Manulife in December 2010 as the Head of Regional Wealth Management for Asia reporting directly to the Senior Executive Vice President & General Manager, Asia. He is a member of the Regional Management Team.

For the past 8 years, Mr. Bendl has held various leadership positions within the international life insurance companies of AIG in the Middle East and Southeast Asia and most recently as the CEO of an Indonesian insurer.

Mr. Bendl has a diverse and successful track record in the development of alternative distribution channels and partnerships, product development and business transformation initiatives in many operating jurisdictions and under many different business conditions.

Previously, Mr. Bendl worked for Manulife Financial and its related companies for nearly 10 years, where he held senior positions in the investment, pension and insurance subsidiaries in Canada, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Mr. Bendl completed a MBA at Queen's University and a Bachelor of Science degree at The University of British Columbia.

   
   

Steven Yeo
Senior Vice President and Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, Asia


Steven Yeo is responsible for setting the strategic direction for legal and compliance services across Asia Division, and has oversight of all legal & compliance units supporting Manulife's businesses in Asia. He is a member of both the Asia Division senior leadership group and the global legal team.

Mr. Yeo has been covering legal affairs in Asia since 1996, and has advised on a number of regulatory developments across Asia, including advising the Hong Kong Trustee & Custodian Forum on the introduction of the Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund ("MPF") Scheme and making successful oral and written representations to Hong Kong's Legislative Council on Hong Kong's Mandatory Provident Fund legislation.

Mr. Yeo joined Manulife from Citigroup, where he was a Managing Director and Asia General Counsel of its Corporate & Commercial Bank, its Global Transactions Services group as well as other divisions. Before that, Mr. Yeo trained with and was a solicitor in the London banking department of one of the UK's premier 'magic circle' law firms. He is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales.

Mr. Yeo takes an active interest in charitable works, and is a Member of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Sedan Chair Race Charity Fund.
