As the first joint venture life insurance company in China, Manulife-Sinochem inherits the tradition of Manulife Financial, taking advantage of its insurance expertise, while depending on Sinochem's understanding of the Chinese market to make considerable developments in agency training, product design, market exploration and service effectiveness.
Manulife Financial has committed a core group of experienced and skilled specialists from its operations in Canada, the U.S. and other Asian businesses to help accelerate the development of Manulife-Sinochem in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and throughout China.
- Total company assets under management for 2005 increased 34 per cent compared with the same period the previous year, reaching USD 244m. Total premium income for 2005 increased 17.4 per cent over the year earlier, reaching nearly RMB 0.7 billion.
- Manulife-Sinochem is Canada's second largest employer operating in China. Today it has nearly 5,000 professionally trained staff and agents serving approximately 240,000 customers.
- In March 2004, Manulife-Sinochem was awarded the "Most Trustworthy Company" award from the Shanghai Consumer Association and Shanghai Civil Office. This award is considered the highest recognition from the Shanghai government for a company's trustworthiness and MSL is the only insurance company that has ever been honored with the title. In March 2005, Manulife-Sinochem was the recipient of the "Model Trustworthy Company of the Year" award.
- In 2005, Manulife-Sinochem's "Smart Baby" Par Whole Life product received Shanghai's "Favorite Juvenile Product" award for the third year in a row. Additionally, the Company was awarded the honour of "Favorite Insurance Product" in the Shanghai First Insurance Product Exhibition.
- Manulife-Sinochem's brand awareness in China continues to improve through newspaper, billboard, bus ads, and television commercials. Recent research indicates that more than 30 per cent of people interviewed have heard of Manulife-Sinochem. Manulife-Sinochem will make continuous efforts to enhance and improve its brand image in the insurance market.
- In 2004, Manulife-Sinochem became the Official Life Insurance Partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
