Giving back to the community where it does business is an important philosophy for Manulife-Sinochem, its staff and agents.
The company has been renowned for its "Social Commitment" charity event that happens annually throughout the cities where the company operates. In 2004, the event was entitled "For Love and Care", whereby company volunteers raised charity fund to help the disabled by T-shirts sales. And in 2005, the charity event was entitled "Operation and Mobility", where company volunteers were encouraged to donate to the World Wheelchair Foundation. All staff and agents take an active part in the annual event, and also the public is invited to participate as well, further enhancing our strong reputation and brand.
For six consecutive years, Manulife-Sinochem has sponsored the "Terry Fox Run," helping to raise funds for cancer research. Recently, these charity events were held throughout the core cities the company operates.
In cooperation with Shanghai Charity Fund, Manulife-Sinochem established the "Charity Fund for Dread Diseases," providing financial assistance for university students that suffer from dread diseases from 2001 to 2010.
In 2001, Manulife-Sinochem donated saplings valued at RMB 100,000 to Shanghai Century Park. Former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien; then former Shanghai Mayor, Mr. Xu Kuangdi; President of Manulife Financial (Canadian partner of the joint venture), Mr. Dominic D'Alessandro; the management team of Manulife-Sinochem and other VIPs planted the saplings representing the friendship between China and Canada.
In 1999, Manulife-Sinochem donated RMB 500,000 to Guang'an County in the Sichuan Province of China to support two charitable projects - the establishment of a primary school and a water supply.
