Manulife-Sinochem provides a wide range of insurance products, quoted in RMB currency, to meet the needs of customers. The scope of its business includes life insurance for both local people and foreigners.

Manulife-Sinochem believes in providing top quality customer service. Insurance products are carefully designed to meet consumer needs and advanced computer systems have been developed to facilitate efficient administration and effective client service.

Since opening, Manulife-Sinochem has developed more than 30 types of products, including:

  • In 2004, Manulife-Sinochem introduced its "first-to-market" "Increasing Protection Option (IPO)" product, an innovative, hassle-free way for customers to increase the value of in-force insurance plans for consumers whose increased wealth was not reflected in insurance plans purchased some years earlier.

  • Manulife-Sinochem successfully launched the "Sunshine Baby" product series in late 2003, focusing on education and providing the customer with flexible choices. The addition of "Sunshine Baby" rounds out the Company's juvenile product portfolio, again delivering on its promise of "caring for China's citizens."

  • In 2001, Manulife-Sinochem sold its first investment-linked rider in China, providing policyholders a flexible personal financial planning vehicle.

  • Manulife-Sinochem was among the first group of companies allowed to sell participating products in China and permitted to invest up to 100 per cent of its segregated fund into mutual funds. This represents a vote of confidence from the regulator.

  • In 2000, Manulife-Sinochem sold the first profit-sharing life insurance policy in China, allowing policyholders to share in the success of the Company. The Company's product portfolio now includes thirteen profit-sharing life products - the largest profit-sharing portfolio in China, including "Financial Expert," "Smart Baby," "Sunshine Baby," "Endow Lucky Star," "Lady Plan" and "Pure Whole Life." Today, premiums from profit-sharing products account for 90 per cent of all new life policies premium income for Manulife-Sinochem.

  • Manulife-Sinochem was the first life insurer in China to introduce the concept of family medical insurance - "one policy to the entire family" - as well as an investment-linked rider packaged with a profit-sharing plan, providing family protection, retirement saving, and investor-choice wealth accumulation in one policy.

  • In 1999, Manulife-Sinochem launched, for the first time in China, two products targeted specifically for females - "Premier Lady Protection Plan" and "Premier Lady Bonus Plan." Today, the Company's "lady" products have been updated to their third generation.

Under the recent lift of geographical and product restrictions for foreign insurers by the Government, as part of China's commitment to the World Trade Organization, the company launched its group insurance business in 2005. The company plans to launch the group insurance business firstly among the big cities and mainly targets the joint venture and small-to-medium sized companies. It is determined to become the employee benefit provider of choice in the mainland.
