FAQ

About the additional coverage for Novel Coronavirus

“Additional Coverage for Novel Coronavirus” refers to “Hospital Cash Benefit”, “By-your-side Benefit” and “Family Support Benefit” (or referred as “Additional Coverage”)

The coverage period of Additional Coverage for Novel Coronavirus is from January 24, 2020 to April 30, 2020. (During which the covered insured was diagnosed with Novel Coronavirus or under quarantine)

The Additional Coverage for Novel Coronavirus is applicable to 1) the Insured of MIL’s individual insurance policies including ILAS insurance plans issued in Hong Kong and Macau (mutual funds and general insurance issued by QBE are not included) and 2) the covered members of MIL’s group policies with hospitalization benefit issued in Hong Kong and Macau (“Covered Client”). For the avoidance of doubt, policyowners are not eligible for this Additional Coverage if they are not the Insured.

This is an additional coverage. In case the Insured has a plan with hospital cash benefit, an extra HKD600/day will be provided on top of his / her original coverage.

“Quarantine” shall mean under compulsory quarantine in hospital or isolation center for observation in Hong Kong or Macau, required by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or Macao Special Administrative Region in response to the novel coronavirus infection. No benefit will be payable if the quarantine is imposed on the covered customer before the policy application date or policy issue date. For avoidance of doubt, quarantine at home or voluntary hospitalization for investigation will not be covered.

To enjoy the “Family Support Benefit”, as long as the Insured is diagnosed with novel coronavirus infection, we will offer HKD2,000 as an one-off family support, regardless of whether the Insured lives on his / her own and the number of family members of the insured.

No, even if a Covered Client is holding more than one individual insurance policy and / or group medical policy, each applicable type of Additional Coverage for Novel Coronaviruses will be payable once in respect of each Insured.

Claims

For “Hospital Cash Benefit” and “Family Support Benefit”, overseas hospitals will be accepted. For “By-your-side Benefit” in relation to mandatory quarantine, only hospitals or quarantine centres in Hong Kong or Macau will be accepted.

Supporting documents for Additional Coverage:

  • Hospital Cash Benefit / Family Support Benefit:
Requirements will be the same as filing a medical claim, such as discharge summary / slip, sick leave certificate and laboratory / investigation reports supporting the actual diagnosis and period of confinement. Please specify in the claim documents that it is for the purpose of claiming Additional Coverage for Novel Coronavirus.
  • By-your-side Benefit:
Official documents issued by Hong Kong / Macau governments confirming the mandatory quarantine in hospital or isolation centre for observation due to novel coronavirus. The documents should contain full name & ID no. of the insured which match with our record. Please specify in the claims document that it is for the purpose of claiming Additional Coverage for Novel Coronavirus.
