Manulife announces 40 senior agency promotions

Hong Kong – Manulife has promoted some 40 agency leaders in Hong Kong in recognition of their enormous contribution to the professional development and customer-centric orientation of its agency force.

Kareen Chow, Vice President and Chief Agency Officer, Manulife Hong Kong, said: “We take pride in having a strong team of professional advisors who are always ready to put our customers’ needs first and provide them with the right solutions. Heading the list of promotions is George Lai, who has been made Senior Regional Director. Mr. Lai joined Manulife in July 1987 and has demonstrated dedication, perseverance and loyalty ever since. His management excellence has won him numerous internal awards, including that of Senior Branch Manager of the Year – Highest Growth in 2000 and Regional Director of the Year – Highest Growth (Direct) in 2011. Last year was a remarkable one for Mr. Lai, who celebrated his 30th anniversary with Manulife by attaining Diamond Club membership. 

He has been a frequent winner of GAMA awards since 1997, garnering a Frontline Leader Award (FLA) – Silver, an International Management Award (IMA) – Diamond and a Master Agency Award (MAA) for four consecutive years from 2014 to 2017. Mr. Lai’s outstanding performance has also earned him the International Quality Award (IQA) and Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) designations for 13 and seven years, respectively.

The following nine agency leaders were promoted to Regional Directors in appreciation of their pivotal role in the success of the sales force of Manulife Hong Kong.

Jennifer Lee has been a consistently outstanding performer since joining Manulife in 1983. A 4-star Master Builder and a frequent qualifier for MDRT and IQA, she was named Superstar four times between 1991 and 2000. As the first runner-up for Senior District Director – Highest Productivity (Direct) in 2017, she is also a regular qualifier for overseas conferences and a winner of numerous GAMA awards, including both FLA-Platinum and IMA-Diamond in 2013, 2016 and 2017, as well as both FLA-Gold and IMA-Diamond in 2014 and 2015.

Patrick Cheng joined Manulife in 1986 and was progressively promoted from Unit Manager to Regional Director over the last three decades. He has won many agency management awards including those for highest production and highest productivity. In 2017, Patrick won the champion of Senior District Director of the Year – Highest Productivity (Umbrella & Direct). As a 23-times MDRT veteran and a frequent IQA qualifier, he has won various GAMA awards, garnering IMA-Platinum from 2011 to 2015, FLA-Platinum from 2013 to 2017 and IMA-Diamond in 2016 and 2017. 

Shelina Chung has delivered exceptional results for both individual and team performance and won a number of awards since joining Manulife in 1996, including the champion for District Director of the Year –  Highest Production in 2011, first runner-up for this award in 2013 and the first runner-up for Senior District Director of the Year – Highest Productivity in 2014, to name just a few. Apart from repeatedly attaining MDRT and IQA qualification, she has also received many GAMA awards.

Tong Kam Wing celebrated his 20th anniversary with Manulife in February 2018. His outstanding performance in growth and recruitment earned him rapid advancement to Senior District Director in 2015, as well as champion for Senior District Director of the Year – Highest Growth (Direct), shortly after being promoted to District Director in 2012. He has won numerous internal and industry awards. His strong commitment and enthusiasm make him an ideal role model for his team. 

Steven Wong won various awards in areas related to growth, recruitment and production with his perseverance and dedication after joining Manulife in 2000. In 2017, Steven won the first runner-up for Senior District Director of the Year – Highest Production (Direct). As a qualifier for IQA and MDRT, he is also a GAMA awardee of both FLA-Bronze and IMA-Platinum in 2015 and both FLA-Gold and IMA-Diamond in 2017.  

Jolly Wong has demonstrated the utmost dedication and excellent leadership since joining Manulife in 2000. His achievements in productivity and recruitment have resulted in numerous recognitions and awards. He earned champion for Senior District Director of the Year – Highest Growth in 2016. A consistent qualifier for IQA, he has also qualified for MDRT twice as well as winning Life Underwriters Association (LUA) Distinguished Manager Award (DMA) in 2015, plus various GAMA awards. 

Ricky Lam has been with Manulife for more than 15 years. He has worked hard in developing his team progressively over the years and earned a number of recognitions and awards in growth. The year 2017 marked Ricky’s 15th Anniversary and he also won champion for Senior District Director – Highest Growth (Umbrella). He is a frequent winner of GAMA awards, including FLA-Silver in 2011-2012 and 2014-2015, IMA-Platinum in 2013 and 2015, both FLA-Bronze and IMA-Diamond in 2017. 

Alan Chung has been an outperformer in production and recruitment since joining Manulife in 2008. In 2015, Alan was champion for District Director of the Year – Highest Production and second runner-up for Highest Growth and Highest Recruitment. In 2017, Alan won champion for Senior District Director of the Year – Highest Growth and Highest Recruitment. Apart from winning many manager awards with his solid achievements, he is a frequent winner of prestigious GAMA awards, including FLA-Silver from 2014 to 2017, IMA-Platinum in 2015 and IMA-Diamond in 2016 and 2017. 

Sam Ho, who joined Manulife in 2009, was honoured with a number of agency management awards –– including champion for Senior District Director of the Year – Highest Growth (Umbrella), Highest Production, Highest Recruitment and Highest Growth (first runner-up) in 2015 and 2016, Highest Production (Umbrella & Direct) and Highest Recruitment (Direct) (first runner-up) in 2017 –– as well as various personal production accolades. As an MDRT veteran, she is also a consistent winner of industry awards such as LUA-DMA in 2016 and 2017 and several GAMA manager awards.  

There were promotions also for Alan CW Chan, Mark Sit, William Pang, Elaine Sze, Candy Leung, Dick Wong, Yvonne Lo, Brian Soong, Ricky Cheung and Derek Chow, all of whom have been advanced to Senior District Directors for the part they have played in the development of Manulife’s agency force over the years.

Angie Chung, Jacqueline Ho, Pinky Lee, Belinda Ng, Keith Wong, Jack Yip, Anthony Leung, Alex Tao, Murphy Liu, Peter Lee, Irene Wu, Matthew Wong, Fei Law, Rio Lam, Ma Hok Lun, Pamela Poon, Ice Poon, Bryan Tze, Andy Yan and Tina Ng have been promoted to the position of District Director, in recognition of their achievements and contribution to the company.
