For Immediate Release

December 16, 2019

TSX/NYSE/PSE: MFC     SEHK: 945

HONG KONG – Manulife today announced the appointment of Damien Green as the new Chief Executive Officer of Manulife (International) Limited, overseeing Manulife’s business in Hong Kong and Macau.

Currently Manulife’s Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for Asia, Mr. Green will start as CEO for Hong Kong and Macau on January 1, 2020. As a member of Manulife’s Asia Division Executive Committee, he will continue to report to Manulife Asia CEO Anil Wadhwani in his new position.

“Hong Kong is one of Manulife’s most important and successful markets,” said Mr. Wadhwani. “This is a great opportunity for Damien to drive our ambition to become the most digital, customer-centric global company in our industry. I am confident we will continue to see the business flourish even further under his leadership.”

Mr. Green joined Manulife in December 2018 in his current capacity. During the past year, he has focused on a wide range of areas including supporting the development of new business strategies for the Japan and Hong Kong businesses, along with the establishment of a new execution and governance framework to accelerate the company’s customer experience and digital transformation.

Mr. Green is an experienced life insurance CEO having previously led MetLife’s businesses in Korea and Australia and AIA’s business in Australia. He has also held a number of regional executive positions across multiple Asian markets and industry segments including life, pensions and employee benefits. In total he has almost 20 years of leadership experience within the insurance industry across the Asia-Pacific including in Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and Australia.

The new appointment follows the recent announcement by current CEO Guy Mills of his retirement from the role at the end of 2019. Mr. Mills will become Chairman of the Board to Manulife (International) Limited and Senior Advisor to Mr. Wadhwani.

“Guy has led our Hong Kong and Macau business to new heights in recent years, championing our transformation and delivering exceptional results,” said Mr. Wadhwani. “He leaves our businesses in great shape with a very strong team. We thank him for all the contributions he has made to the Company over the years and I look forward to his continued counsel.”
