Make Longevity Truly Livable

Hong Kong is among the world’s longest-living cities1, yet healthy years are not keeping pace. This widening healthspan–lifespan gap is driven by rising physical, mental, and financial pressures, alongside changing family structures that are reshaping traditional support. Increasingly, Hongkongers define longevity through quality of life, independence, and purpose — not merely living longer or remaining illness-free2 .

Manulife is committed to making longevity truly livable. We combine research-driven insights, innovation and advocacy, and community partnerships to help people not only live longer, but live healthier and more financially secure lives.

Manulife Longevity Insight Forum

What does it mean to live well in a world where longevity is becoming the new norm?

As longer lifespans become the new norm, the real challenge is no longer how long we live, but how well we live. Under the theme “Beyond Years: Building a Life Well-Lived”, the Forum will examine how financial resilience, wellbeing, technology and innovation must come together to enable people to live with choice, independence and purpose across every life stage.

‘The New Fluidity’ Report

—Financial resilience in the age of longevity

Manulife has partnered with FT Longitude, the specialist research and thought leadership agency of the Financial Times Group, to explore how high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and affluent across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, including Hong Kong1, are rethinking their retirement planning, financial management and wealth transfer strategies. The findings are brought together in ‘The New Fluidity – Financial resilience in the age of longevity’ Report, highlighting emerging directions in wealth management in an era of longer lives.

Key highlights of the survey:

Among Hong Kong-based respondents surveyed,

  • Only 18% have a fully integrated wealth plan that connects investments, tax, succession planning, legal structures and family governance

Hong Kong’s affluent turn retirement into multi-phase ‘portfolio lives’

  • 26% expect to work for as long as possible
  • 66% are redesigning their portfolios to support a more flexible lifestyle rather than a fixed retirement date

Health costs emerge as a critical blind spot in longevity planning for Hong Kong’s HNWIs

  • 26% lack confidence in their preparedness for a critical illness
  • 29% are concerned about a large uninsured medical bill
  • 23% feel unprepared to fund a family member's long-term care needs

Hong Kong’s HNWIs show strong demand for more coordinated professional advice

  • 70% would benefit from a single, trusted adviser
  • 46% place a premium on advisers who can proactively identify emerging risks or opportunities

Discover the emerging wealth planning trends among HNWIs and affluent across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

1 Hong Kong findings are based on a survey of 250 high-net-worth individuals and mass-affluent respondents in Hong Kong, conducted as part of a broader study of 1,000 respondents across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
