Learn more about Manulife VHIS

Our existing Individual Indemnity Health Insurance Plans’ (IHIP) policyholders with policy issuance before April 1, 20191, can choose to migrate their original IHIP coverage to a VHIS certified plan offered by us. The insured person must hold a Hong Kong Identity Card in order to be eligible for migration. Special migration offers will be available, you can contact your Insurance Advisor or Customer Service Hotline to understand the details and arrange migration. Please click here for the list of “Applicable Plan(s)” which can be migrated to our VHIS certified plans.

1Except for ManuMaster/ManuShine Healthcare Series/Benefit policies issued before February 17, 2020, where policyholders can choose to migrate such Original Coverage to Manulife Supreme VHIS Flexi Plan through the Manulife Supreme VHIS Migration Program.

The original IHIP coverage will be terminated after successfully migrating to a VHIS certified plan.

Existing policyholders with IHIP coverage will receive communication starting from early April 2019 about the VHIS migration program. For customers who are interested to migrate to any VHIS certified plans offered by Manulife, you can contact your Insurance Advisor or Customer Service Hotline to understand the details and arrange migration.

 

Yes, customers are allowed to upgrade or downgrade their benefit class, add or delete supplementary medical benefit during migration. This is subject to our underwriting decision and product rules applied to the plans.

 

As the rider is not regarded as part of VHIS certified plan, such premium paid on the rider is not eligible for tax deduction.

 

The insurance companies offering VHIS will set the premiums according to the coverage provided by their plans. The premium can also differ by age and gender etc., and the overall premium rates may be adjusted by the insurance company from time to time due to factors like medical inflation and benefit limit revision etc.

 

Citizens may apply for tax deduction on the qualifying premiums paid by a citizen for himself/herself and his/her specified dependent(s) for VHIS certified plans on or after April 1, 2019. The deduction ceiling is set at HK$8,000 per insured person per year. There is no cap on the number of dependent(s) that are eligible for tax deduction. For example, if you purchase 3 VHIS plans for 3 dependents, you can apply for tax deduction for the premiums paid up to HK$24,000 (HK$8,000 x 3) per year.
