Surrendering your policy

How might surrendering a policy affect you?

If you own a policy with an accumulated cash value, you can cancel or “surrender” your policy to withdraw that cash value or transfer it to another policy. Surrendering your policy, however, may hinder you from meeting your long-term financial objectives. Also, you may be unable to obtain a similar level of protection on the same terms in the future.

Instead, you may have options to withdraw part of your policy value while maintaining your policy, such as:

  • applying for a premium holiday;
  • making a dividend/guaranteed cash payment withdrawal;
  • taking out a policy loan, subject to loan interest; and
  • reducing your coverage to cash out part of your guaranteed cash value.

We encourage you to contact your insurance advisor or call our Customer Service Hotline to discuss the options open to you for your policy and fully understand any associated impact on your coverage and/or future benefits.

If you would still like to surrender your policy, , you can do so in two ways:

1. Review and submit through the website or the app

Contact your insurance advisor for them to fill out the request form according to your instructions. Then, log in to the website or the app, follow the steps, review and submit the filled request form.

2. Submit form by mail or in person

Complete the Application for Maturity Withdrawal/Surrender (Traditional/Universal Life Policy) Form (for policies issued in Hong Kong) or Application for Maturity Withdrawal/Surrender (Traditional/Universal Life Policy) Form (for policies issued in Macau) and submit it to us with the required document(s) below.

ILAS policy owners: please contact your insurance advisor for detailed guidance on policy surrender.

Legal entities: if the policy owner is a legal entity (for example, a company), please contact your insurance advisor for detailed guidance on the relevant procedure and required documents for policy surrender.
