- Emergency support hotline (2108 1333): Offering support for customers in need, including dedicated case follow-up and urgent assistance, access to medical and other necessary support and guidance on coverage and claims matters.
- Emergency cash: An emergency fund has been established to help impacted customers residing in Wang Fuk Court settle immediate, essential expenses of HK$5,000 per person.
- Case management: Our case management team will assist customers residing in Wang Fuk Court who are hospitalized with subsequent treatment and rehabilitation.
- Expedited claims and waived documentation: A dedicated team is ready to fast-track claims, and certain documentation requirements involving affected customers have been waived to simplify and accelerate the process.
- Coverage continuity: For affected customers with overdue premiums, policies will remain active to ensure uninterrupted insurance coverage during this difficult time.

Product Eligibility, Underwriting Arrangement and Important Note for Adding Manulife Supreme Lite VHIS Supplementary Benefit To Existing Policy

Product Eligibility

  • Applicable to Manulife Supreme VHIS Flexi Plan and Manulife Supreme Lite VHIS Supplementary Benefit: (Proposed) Insured person who resides in Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China or other designated place of residency*
  • Applicable to Manulife Shelter VHIS Standard Plan and Manulife First VHIS Flexi Plan: (Proposed) Insured person must be a HKID card holder (other document which shows the right of adobe in HK will also be accepted)
  • (Proposed) Insured person's age must be from age 0 (at least 15 days) to age 80 (based on attained age)
  • Only single policy holder per policy is acceptable
  • Policy holder may be the insured person or a different individual
  • Business applicant as policy holder is not acceptable

Underwriting Arrangement

Application for a VHIS policy is subject to underwriting. Manulife may offer standard rate, impose additional premium and/or apply case-based exclusion(s) or decline the application based on the following factors, material facts and information of the proposed insured person:

  • Occupation classes
  • Place(s) of residence
  • Medical history, conditions and evidences
  • Other information such as past insurance history

 

Important Note for Adding Manulife Supreme Lite VHIS Supplementary Benefit (“VHIS Supreme Lite”) To Existing Policy

  • The coverage period of VHIS Supreme Lite before the first renewal will be the remaining period of that policy year of the attaching basic plan and could be less than 1 year. Therefore, the premium rate of VHIS Supreme Lite’s first policy year could be applicable for less than 1 year. Premium rate will vary depending on the age nearest birthday of the insured person at each policy anniversary
  • Even if the underwriting process has been completed, VHIS Supreme Lite's effective date and issuance date can not be within 2 months before the next policy anniversary of the existing basic plan. The actual effective date of VHIS Supreme Lite is subject to the information provided in the policy document after this plan is issued
  • Please note that effective date and issuance date of VHIS Supreme Lite may not be the same and please notify us if the (proposed) insured person has any update or changes to all requisite information provided in the application (including but not limited to change in health conditions) between the date of this application and the date of issue of the VHIS Supreme Lite

Migration Arrangement for existing customers

If you are the policy holder of any one of the medical protection insurance plans/benefits below, you can choose to migrate your existing plan/benefit ("Original Coverage") to our designated VHIS certified plans with re-underwriting. Remarks:

  • The Original Coverage must be issued before 1 April 20191 and be inforce at the time of migration.
  • The proposed insured person’s Original Coverage must be a policy of an Applicable Plan and the application is subject to VHIS Product’s product eligibility and underwriting requirements.

1Except for ManuMaster Healthcare Series/Benefit and ManuShine Healthcare Series/Benefit policies issued before February 17, 2020, where policy holders can choose to migrate such Original Coverage to Manulife Supreme VHIS Flexi Plan and Manulife Supreme Lite VHIS Supplementary Benefit with re-underwriting.

Administrative rules and eligibility for tax deduction

Transfer of Policy Ownership

The policy holder may request for the Transfer of Policy Ownership after the VHIS policy is issued. Transfer of Policy Ownership can be applied once per year. The policy holder should contact us for the details of the terms and conditions and the applicable forms to be filled in.

Eligibility for Tax Deduction#

In order to be qualify for claiming tax deduction, the following requirements shall be met:

  • The policy providing coverage should be a certified plan under VHIS;
  • The policy holder or his/her spouse is a personal income taxpayer;
  • The insured person is a Hong Kong resident*;
  • The insured person is the policy holder; or is qualified as the policy holder's specified relatives* as defined under the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap.112).

*For detailed definitions, please refer to Inland Revenue Ordinance Cap. 112.

The tax deduction becomes effective in the year of assessment commencing on 1 April 2019 and to all subsequent years of assessment. Policy issued under VHIS Certified Plan that are effective and with premium paid on or after 1 April 2019 are eligible for the tax deduction. An "Annual Premium Statement" (with premium payment date^ shown) will be provided by us for each year of assessment (i.e. from 1 April of the year to 31 March of the following year) as the supporting document for tax deduction.

^Premium payment date refers to the premium due date. In the event of premium overdue, the premium payment date refers to the date on which the overdue premium is received and applied to the policy.

#Please note that the VHIS policy will not be eligible for tax deduction if the insured person is not a holder of Hong Kong Identity Card. Whether tax deduction is allowable for the qualifying premiums paid under VHIS policy (not including levy) are subject to the Inland Revenue Ordinance and the circumstances of the policy holder (as taxpayer) and the insured person(s) (as specified relative(s)).
